Lets Compare: Old(ish) School to (New)ish School Competitors — Paula/Georgia Edition

I have a soft spot for Paula, and I probably always will. She was never one of the strongest girls, but she fought hard, and went up against some fierce competitors. Also, she could dominate an eating challenge like no other girl I’d seen before.

Georgia came in strong last season and has become one of the most frequent narrators for the show. She is considered one of the strongest girls on the UKs side, but sadly with the level of competition over there, it’s not that big of an accomplishment. However, she has a lot of heart, and that is something that will take her far.

Also, quick shout out to NovaRogue, as I’ve noticed these comparisons are a bit similar to their Casting Archetype articles.

Attribute #1 — Social Game

One thing that both these girls excel at is making friends with strong players. Paula was best friends with Evan outside the show and was always included in the Mob (even if Kenny and Johnny screwed her over on The Island). She took that friendship and put it to use on Rivals, where she got her first win. Evelyn may have been allied with Wes, but Paula had relationships with a member of every team in their alliance, which led to them only seeing one elimination when they were last place in a challenge.

Georgia got much farther on her first season than Paula got on the Duel (first female out versus making the finals — no parallels to be made there), but she seems to be playing her second season similarly to how Paula would. She started with two big allies, Theo and Bear, who are known to be bullies for the sake of comedy. (Sound familiar?)

Attribute #2 — Cardio

Paula may have had her struggles as a competitor, but everyone knew she was a threat for a final. What she lacked in puzzles and brute strength, she made up for with cardio for days. Even in her first competition, you can tell the girl is built to run.

While Georgia gassed out in the War of the Worlds final, she is known to have great cardio. In my opinion, her gassing out had more to do with her racing the men in a mixed gender final, than her not being able to run the distance. She is a known marathon runner, and according to other cast members would run great distances on the treadmill in the house.

Attribute #3 — Confessionals

Back in the day, (wow I feel old) Paula was known for her funny confessionals. She was a little dry, making her less of a bubbly persona than Georgia, but continuously brought it home nonetheless. She made fun of others all the time, but I always loved her because she also made fun of herself.

Georgia, on the other hand, has taken over the narrator role for both War of the Worlds seasons. She rocks her Baby Spice persona, and delivers often funny, sometimes annoying, confessionals that are sprinkled throughout each episode.

Attribute #4 — Hookup Drama

I hate myself a bit for bringing boys up on a girl comparison, knowing I didn’t have to for the Jordan/Evan article I wrote earlier. However, the storylines for both these girls rely a lot on their hookups, and how it affects their game versus any genuine strategy they might have.

Paula for a few seasons had an unhealthy obsession with Dunbar, although he seemed less interested in her. She would often throw away her game if he was on a season with her, just to keep him safe. An example of this is Duel II, when she called his name despite her alliances wishes. This caused both her and Evan to have issues with their alliance, until Evan dropped her as a partner.

Georgia in two seasons has also had a hookup that seriously affects her gameplay. Her relationship with Bear causes many raised eyebrows, as it is another example of a time when the girl seems much more into it than the guy. Although she made the final last season, it was in a way despite of her relationship. Even after discovering Bear had a girlfriend, she still wanted to be with him. It even caused her to be on the outs with her partner, much like Paula with Evan.
