Sometimes I think I’m the only person who celebrates Stanislav Petrov, the Man Who Saved the World, and I don’t know what it is about this guy that appeals to me so much, except that we’re all in the grip of terrible, violent powers whose only aim is cruelty and destruction and we all need to remember that the most heroic thing you can do is to refuse to hurt people when they tell you to.
